Second Annual Julia Child Birthday Event Nears
Last year, I decided to celebrate the anniversary of the glorious day of Julia Child's birth by cooking up some of her recipes, and I asked other food bloggers if they would like to join me. Quite a few did, and it was a fun event. I had snapped this photo of my cat Louis snoozing next to some of the cookbooks I had lying around just before last year's event, and I like it so much, I've decided to make it the J.C. Birthday Event "logo."Here's the deal: The anniversary of Mrs. Child's birth is August 15. Sometime before that date, if you'd like to join in—and I hope you do—post something Julia related on your blog or Web site, and send me the permanent link to it. You can whip up a simple omelet or a three-course meal—whatever suits your fancy. Or you can simply reminisce about her. You can write an ode to her warbly voice. You can paint a picture of her trussing a chicken. Any and all homages will be appreciated. On the 15th, I'll do a roundup of all of the posts so we can all see each other's contributions.
You in?

Awesome! I did not know that JC was born a day and many years before me. I have to figure out a way to make our birthday week special!
I missed it last year, and this year I really want to do it. Will check out my one and only JC cookbook.
Lannae & Kalyn: Happy, happy, happy! Glad you plan to join in. I'll do another reminder about a week beforehand, and there should be notices on Is My Blog Burning? and Sticky Date about it, too (thanks, Alanna!).
Alright~ I will see what I can whip up!
I'm in for Round 2!
I am yet to own one of her cookbooks, do you think I can find one of her recipes online? I would not mind taking part.
Cynthia: Do you think your library carries any of her books? I actually didn't own any last year, but I got several from the library (now I own The Way to Cook, which I like a lot). I'm sure there probably are some recipes available online, too, though...
I have the set of DVDs of her "French Chef" TV show; they're wonderful.
Gnightgirl: Glad you're doing it again! Can't wait to see what you whip up.
I'm in....
i remember this picture from last year. hi louis! i'm in too :)
Cynthia & Aria: Glad you're in! It should be fun.
I am so in. I just love Julia. I plan to cook something from Baking With Julia, one of my favorite baking books. What a great idea, Lisa!!
I'm so glad that you're hosting this event again!
Toni, I'm so glad you're playing along!
And Ivonne, I know you are going to make something delectable...
I'm new, but count me in, too. Been reading your blog for several months now. Love it!
count me in! what a fabulous idea.
Prairiegourmet and Myriam: So glad you're joining in! It will be great to see what you-all cook up.
Oh, I'm so in! I was going to ask if you were going to do it again, so this is great news. What fun--deciding what to cook for JC!
Sher, so glad you're in! I remember last year fondly. Let's do again!
luv Julia Child! I've been a fan ever since I read "My Life in France". I already had her dvds so as I read the book I could almost hear her unique voice in my head.
Veron, I read My Life in France, too, and loved it. And I love watching the DVDs of the old French Chef shows.
Lisa, what a wonderful idea. I want to participate!
I read My Life in France last summer, and when I got to the last page, with the photo of her in her garden waving goodbye, I started crying like a baby.
She was exceptional.
Karen, so glad you're joining in. Can't wait to see what you make. And—I cried at the end of My Life in France, too. She was truly wonderful, and that was a poignant moment in the book.
Lisa - Ever since I stumbled upon your blog months ago when searching Julia Child on the internet, I've been a fan.
For her birthday, I will be making Sole Meuniere.
I am including a link to my blog from July 4, which has a photo of my beautiful, buttery Julia Child Floribunda Roses.

Thank you, Lori. I'm so glad you're taking part! Can't wait to vicariously taste the sole. And your roses are wonderful! We must link to that photo, too, in the birthday round-up.
Lisa last year was so fun and I am trying again this year but with my dial up no telling if I will make it...I am going to try.
Thanks for hosting it again because I know I will read even if I can't post.
Coffeepot: I remember your perfectly clean finger from last year! Hope you get to participate, but if not, you can enjoy reading about the others. Sorry to hear about your Internet problems.
Oh! Can I play or do I need to be a member of your group?? Please oh please oh purty please? :D
(I promise to play well with others! :D )

i'm definitely in :) she went to my alma mater and I have lots of stuff from the archives on her... i never connected with her TV persona but i do respect her culinary contribution and legacy immensely and this will be an opportunity to search out her recipes as well :)
BZ, I emailed you, and yes, of course, join in! Thanks.
Trini: So glad you're in! I can't wait to salivate over everyone's dishes...and how interesting that you attended the same school at Mrs. Child.
This sounds fun and I'd love to participate. Cute blog too!
I think I have emailed you my link... if not someone has a great recipe for turkey salad.
Alice Q: Thanks! And I'm so glad you're going to make something.
Sandi, I'm not sure what you mean about the link (don't think you've sent me one), but turkey salad sounds great. Just send me a permalink sometime before the 15th!
What a great event! I was so excited when I came across it and just sent you my link :)
Got it! Thanks, Michelle!

What a great idea for a blog round-up. Here's my attempt at Crepes Suzette, which I'd been meaning to make anyway.
